Some of the characters in a sad story.
They are the children of seasonal workers who migrated to Switzerland during the last century, and their families. The scandal of the hidden children, invisible children, or "children in the closet," as they have often been called, is a stain on the history of modern migrations—a sad and dramatic chapter that saw too many children forced to live in inhumane conditions due to reckless laws and cold economic calculations. These laws viewed the offspring of workers, and thus immigrant childhood, as a threat and a burden, and generally saw the foreigner—as still happens today in too many countries—as an invading enemy of a vaunted native purity.
